Robbery – Arrests: C17-159709
 
On July 20, 2017, at approximately 12:30 a.m., members of the West District Station Community Support Unit were in the area of Lindsay Street and Wellington Crescent conducting a proactive project focused on property crime when they came upon a robbery.
 
Officers met with a 14-year-old male who had been pushed to the ground, punched and robbed of his bicycle by three suspect males who had fled the area.
 
A short time later, a General Patrol unit observed the suspect males in the area of Portage Avenue and Winston Road. The three males immediately ran from police and were tracked by members of the K9 unit.
 
One suspect was located in the 100 block of Winston Road while another suspect was located in the 100 block of Cavell Drive.
 
The stolen bicycle was recovered and will be returned to the 14-year-old victim.
 
Charles Kaniki, an 18-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been arrested for:
 
- Robbery
- Fail to Comply Condition Recognizance
 
He was detained in custody.
 
An 18-year-old male of Winnipeg has been arrested for:
 
- Robbery
- Possession of a Weapon
 
He was released on a Promise to Appear.

Serious Assault – Arrests: C17-144725
 
As previously released:
 
On July 2, 2017, at approximately 12:10 a.m., Winnipeg Police responded to a report of a large fight that broke out at the intersection of Smith St. and St. Mary Ave. 
 
Upon arriving officers located three people who were suffering from stab wounds. A 27-year-old male and a 26-year-old male were both treated for stab wounds and released. A 22-year-old male victim was transported in critical condition. The victim has since been treated and released from hospital. Two other adult male victims were treated and released for stab wounds.
 
An investigation by the Winnipeg Police Major Crimes Unit has resulted in a number of arrests. Sergeant MacKinnon of the Major Crimes unit has authorized the release of the following details:
 
Evan Ryan Bettles, 26, has been charged with: 
 - Aggravated Assault
 - Assault
 - Unsafe storage of firearm
 - Possess weapon
 - Unauthorized Possess of a Firearm with Ammunition
Bettles was detained in custody
 
Anthony Evaristo Gonzales, 27, has been charged with:
 - Aggravated Assault
 - Assault
 
Jonathon Paul Ortiz, 23, has been charged with:
 - Aggravated Assault
 
A 23-year-old female has been charged with: 
 - Assault
 - Aggravated Assault
 
A 26-year-old male has been charged with:
 - Assault with a Weapon
 
A 28-year-old male has been charged with: 
 - Aggravated Assault
 - Public Mischief
 
A 27-year-old male has been charged with:
 - Aggravated Assault
 
In addition to the above seven accused, investigators have identified two additional suspects who remain outstanding.
 
Detectives are also hoping to locate the occupants of a late model Nissan Rouge, dark grey or silver in colour that was directly in the vicinity during this assault. 
 
On July 20, 2017, Major Crimes Unit members located a suspect in the 2100 block of McPhillips Street and placed him under arrest.
 
Laurence Martin Mesina, a 25-year-old male of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
 
- Aggravated Assault
- Assault
 
He was detained in custody.
 
The Winnipeg Police Service is asking the public for their assistance in locating Jeremy Andrew Cabalu, a 27-year-old male of Winnipeg.
 
 
He is described as an Asian male, 5'5" in height, approximately 114 lbs., with a thin build. He has black hair with brown eyes.
 
A warrant for the arrest of Cabalu has been issued for Aggravated Assault.
 
This investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
