Bomb – Investigation: C17-156342
On July 15, 2017, at approximately 11:15 p.m., emergency services personnel responded to the intersection of Gallagher Street and Midmar Avenue for a report of a motor vehicle collision. Initial information was that a truck had collided with a fire hydrant and that the vehicle was on fire. First responders located four victims outside the vehicle suffering from severe burns.
   
Two adult males, 27 and 22-years-old, an adult female, 20-years-old, and a male youth, 17-years-old, were injured.  All four victims were treated in hospital. The 27-year-old male and the 20-year-old female were transported in critical condition.
   
Investigators from the Major Crimes Unit, with the assistance of members of the Bomb Unit and the Forensic Services Unit, have determined that an explosion had occurred within the cab of the truck immediately prior to the collision. The explosion appears to have come from an Improvised Explosive Device (I.E.D.) that was detonated accidentally.
   
This investigation is continuing by members of the Major Crimes Unit. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6219 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
   
Motor Vehicle/Pedestrian Collision: C17-157687
On July 17, 2017, at approximately 4:10 p.m., emergency services personnel responded to a single vehicle motor vehicle collision at the intersection of St. Mary's Ave. and Carlton St. As a result of the collision, two pedestrians were struck.
   
Both pedestrians and the driver of the motor vehicle were transported to hospital. The driver and male pedestrian were treated and released. The adult female succumbed to her injuries.
   
Members of the Winnipeg Police Service Central Traffic Unit are continuing to investigate. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact the Central Traffic Division at 204-986-6271.   
   
Update - Homicide Investigation: C17-157120
As previously released:
On July 16, 2017, at approximately 10:30 p.m., emergency services personnel responded to a report of an injured male in the front enterance of a business in the 600 block of Main Street. An adult male was transported to hospital in critical condition; however, he was subsequently pronounced deceased.
   
The victim has been identified as: John Blaine FLETT, 50-years-old, of Winnipeg.
   
This investigation is continuing by members of the Homicide Unit. Anyone with information that may assist investigators is asked to call 204-986-6508 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477).
   
   
Firearms/Drug - Arrests: C17-157770
On July 17, 2017 at approximately 6:15 p.m., Winnipeg Police general patrol members observed a suspicious vehicle in a parking lot in the 1700 block of Pembina Hwy. Officers approached the vehicle and identified the driver as a Prohibited Driver. At this time, methamphetamine was observed inside the vehicle.
   
Upon a further search of the vehicle, money, 26.5 grams of cocaine, and a loaded 9mm Browning handgun, which was learned to have been reported stolen in 1981, were located and seized.
   
Derreck Chad MADDOCK, 36-years-old, of Winnipeg has been charged with 23 offences, including:

  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm and numerous related firearms offences
  • Possession of Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine
  • Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Methamphetamine
  • Possess Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime
  • Drive Disqualified
  • And a number of breaches of court ordered conditions

Victoria Lee WOODS, 26-years-old, of Winnipeg has been charged with 19 offences including:

  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm and numerous related firearms offences
  • Possession of Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Cocaine
  • Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Methamphetamine
  • Possession of a Scheduled Substance - Marihuana
  • Possess Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime
  • And a number of breaches of court ordered conditions
