Update - Suspicious Person Identified -  R17-0013717

Forensic Examination Pending:

As previously released -On February 19, 2017 at approximately 1:50 p.m., a small group of teenage girls were shopping inside a mall located in the 1200 block of St. Mary's Road when they observed an unknown male following them. The male continued to follow the group so closely that the girls entered a store with the hope to evade him.

Just outside a store, still within the mall, the male appeared to have sprayed or otherwise deposited an unknown substance on the clothing of one of the girls.

The male remained in the area for a brief period of time before fleeing. The girls were not injured as a result of the incident.

Members of the Sex Crimes Unit continued to investigate and due to the support of the public, the person of interest previously described has been positively identified.

The male has been interviewed and cooperated with investigators. At this time, charges will only be considered once the forensic examination of the substance seized has been verified and concluded.

No further details are available at this time.

Once again, the Winnipeg Police Service would like to thank mall security, the public and the media for their support during this on-going investigation.
