Friday, April 29, 2016   Search Efforts Continue for Missing Person – Catherine CURTIS – C16-81635 As previously released - The Winnipeg Police Service is requesting the public's assistance in locating a 60-year-old female, Catherine CURTIS.  CURTIS was last seen on Monday morning, April 25, 2016, in the St. James area of Winnipeg.      CURTIS is described as Caucasian, 5'4", thin build, 85 pounds with long white hair worn in a ponytail, and blue eyes.  She may be wearing a navy blue jacket, dark plaid pants, and white sneakers.   The Winnipeg Police Service Dive Unit is currently assisting with search efforts by searching the waterways of West Winnipeg. The Winnipeg Police Service acknowledges and appreciates the efforts of the many community volunteers who have taken up the search as well. Once again we are reminding all residents that they can assist with the search effort. We're encouraging residents to search their own properties in the event Curtis has suffered a medical emergency. Members of the public are encouraged to check their personal properties, outbuildings, vehicles, and any green space surrounding their property.   Anyone with information regarding her whereabouts is asked to contact the Winnipeg Police Service Missing Persons Unit immediately at 204-986-6250. Arson Investigations – C16-83507 C16-83547 On April 27, 2016 at approximately 3:20 a.m., emergency personnel responded to a fire involving a detached garage associated to a residence in the 500 block of Oakland Avenue. At this stage of the investigation, it appears that the fire originated when a discarded sofa at the rear of the garage was set on fire. The fire spread causing significant damage to the garage, vehicles and residence. Three occupants fled without injury. Damage is estimated at approximately $400,000.00. The fire is suspicious in nature; no arrest(s) have been made at this time.  The investigation is continuing by members of the Arson Unit. ****************************************************************************************************** During a separate incident on April 28, 2016 at approximately 6:00 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service and Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to a working fire at a residence located in the 1400 block of Pacific Avenue West. The suspicious fire appears to have initiated in the garage, spreading to the main dwelling and neighbouring homes. Two vehicles parked nearby were also damaged and are considered a complete loss. Two residents were transported to hospital in stable condition. The total damage is estimated at approximately $500,000.00. No arrest(s) have been made. The investigation is continuing by members of the Arson Unit.
