Residential Robbery Investigation Update -
C15-102006

As previously released, on May 19, 2015, at approximately 7:00 p.m. members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to the 600 block of St. James Street for the report of a residential robbery.

Officers met with the 41-year-old victim who advised that a known female arrived at his door with an unknown female and two unknown males.  The four immediately began to assault him about the body.  He was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Members of the West District Crime Unit continued with the investigation and later arrested the two female suspects.

On June 24th, investigators sought the public's assistance in locating Gene Michael SOLDAT, 26 years of Winnipeg.

On June 25th shortly after 12:00 p.m. members of the East District Crime Unit located SOLDAT in the Elmwood area while investigating an unrelated matter.  He was arrested on the strength of the warrant and later detained in custody.

For his alleged involvement, SOLDAT has been charged with Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm, Forcible Confinement and Overcome Resistance by Attempting to Choke, Suffocate or Strangle Another Person.

Homicide Investigation Update – Arrest -

As previously released -On June 12, 2015 at approximately 5:35 p.m., emergency personnel responded to the banks of the Red River in the area of Lombard Avenue and Waterfront Drive regarding a body located.

It was determined that an off-duty Winnipeg Police Service member located the deceased near the water's edge.

The deceased male has been identified as 49-year-old, Jason Stinson of Beausejour, Manitoba. As a result of the completed autopsy, it has been determined that STINSON was shot while in the area of the banks of the Red River near Lombard Avenue and Waterfront Drive (Steven Juba Park) during daytime hours on Friday June 12th.

Detectives had determined that STINSON was previously the victim of an apparent assault on June 5, 2015 at approximately 7:00 p.m. while near the banks of the Red River in the 900 block of Kildonan Drive. STINSON sustained significant injuries requiring medical attention.

The investigation continued by members of the Homicide Unit who were able to identify a suspect and on the afternoon of June 25th investigators located and arrested Steven Anthony MORRISSEAU, 29 years of Winnipeg for his alleged involvement.

It was learned that on June 12th the victim and MORRISSEAU had been in the area under the train bridge consuming alcohol.  An argument between the two ended when MORRISSEAU produced a firearm and shot the victim in the upper body.

MORRISSEAUhas been charged with Second Degree Murder and was detained in custody.
