Winnipeg Police Service News Release

March 30th, 2012     VEHICLE THEFT- UPDATE ARREST           C12-39529 As previously released, on March 4th, 2012, at approximately 3:00 a.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the area of Corydon Avenue and Arbuthnot Street for a report of a stolen taxi cab.   The investigation revealed that a 25 year old male driver left his vehicle (cab) unattended for a period of time while parked outside of a convenience store.  Upon exiting the store, his cab was missing and assumed stolen.  Police were notified.    The stolen cab was recovered abandoned in the area of the 800 block of Lorette Avenue by members of the Canine Unit.   On March 29th, 2012 Winnipeg Police Service released photos of a person of interest and requested the public's assistance in identifying the male.  As a result members of the Division 16 Crime Unit received information on the male's identity.    On March 30th, 2012, a 24 year old male from Winnipeg was arrested without incident.  He was released on an appearance notice and will be facing one count of theft under $5000.      For further information contact either: Constable Natalie Aitken, Public Information Officer Constable Jason Michalyshen, Public Information Officer Office: (204)986-3061 Fax: (204) 986-3267 Email: WPS-PIO@Winnipeg.ca   Web: www.winnipeg.ca/Police
